EDITORIALLY SPEAKING.

I have been able to get the Basset Hound Crufts 2009 results from the web. I note that the Hound Group this year was won by a Pharoah Hound. Unforunately the bassets were not placed in the Hound Group again this year. The results however threw up some names that many will remember. And I have given you all a reminder who and what they did when in Australia.

I’m still looking for basset things to put in YOUR magazine.

Good Showing

Alan

PLEASE NOTE - CLUB WEBSITE:    www.bassethoundclubnsw.com

WOULD ALL MEMBERS WITH EMAIL ADDRESSES PLEASE SEND THESE TO SECRETARY JIM DOWELL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE SO YOUR HOUNDSENSE CAN BE SENT TO YOU IN THE FUTURE SAVING THE CLUB MONIES.

AND SO SAY ALL OF US.

It is not long before the Championship shows take place and could you all please get your entries in ASAP. I will be doing only one catalogue with the Saturday Show being on one colour and the Sunday Show in another.

Please note the schedules for the interstate shows are included for those interested. Note that Victoria this year will be using local judges as they have significant expenses with the National in October. I am told that the Championship Show judge this year is a Hound man – mainly Afghans.

The weather here in NSW has been appalling in Duns Creek and I have had to bring my “basset family” up to the air conditioned dog trailer on many occasions for several days in late January early February.

I also understand that some of our Victorian friends have had to evacuate the homes when the fires threatened their properties. I understand that M/s Betty Weston (Towritree), Bryan and Kevin Mangelsdorf (Yarramba) and Mrs Grace Venuto (Hushanda) all packed up dogs and whatever and fled when advised. Luckily they were spared and were able to return with their homes intact. Our thoughts and prayers have been with Victoria during their trying recent times.

We also have had some interstaters with health problems. Mrs Joan Mangelsdorf (Broadford, Victoria) and Mr Keith McGinn (Samford, Queensland) have both spent time in hospital recently and we hope that they both will soon fully recovered.

BASSET HOUND NEWS

The following is a summary of some of the current Basset News.

•The Queensland Basset Hound Club have regretfully advised that the June 2010 Championship and Open Show will be their last series of Shows. This has mainly been brought about by declining member numbers together with declining numbers of exhibits at their shows. By finishing up in June 2010, it allows the National in Melbourne on October to go ahead. Unfortunately this will be the last National as there has to be three state clubs for Nationals to occur/continue.

•Bassets in Victoria appear to be going from strength to strength. I am told that at a recent All Breeds Championship Show, Ch Glenfern Elite Force (“Harrison”) owned by Michael & Joan Bannister took Best in Hound Group.

• Ch Yarramba Causin Chaos, on the weekend of 7/8th March in Victoria, “K.C.” did five shows and took two B.I.S. and a Runner up in Group in these five shows. Congratulations Joan, Bryan, Kevin and of course Alfie.

•While this is going on in Victoria, Betty and yours truly took the Hound Group at the Camden Haven Ag Show at Kendall with Ch Yarramba Whats Up Doc (“Ghillie”) on Saturday 28th February. And once again Ghillie is by Ch Dunscreka Tyme Lord.

THE LUCK OF THE IRISH.

Two Red Indians and an Irishman were walking through the woods. All of a sudden, one of the Red Indians ran up a hill to the mouth of a small cave.

“Woooo! Woooo! Wooo! He called into the cave and listened closely until he heard an answering “Woooo! Woooo! Woooo! He then tore off his clothes and ran into the cave.

The Irishman was puzzled and asked the remaining Red Indian what it was all about. “Was the Indian crazy or what?” The Indian replied, “No, it is our custom during mating season when Indian men see a cave, they holler ‘Woooo! Woooo! Woooo!’ into the opening. If they get an answer back, it means that there is a beautiful squaw in there waiting for us.”

Just then they came upon another cave. The second Red Indian ran up to the cave, stopped and hollered Woooo! Woooo! Woooo! Immediately there was the answer Woooo! Woooo! Woooo! from deep inside the cave. He also tore off all his clothes and disappeared into the cave.

The Irishman wandered around the woods alone for a while, and then spied a third large cave. As he looked in amazement at the opening of the huge opening, he was thinking, ‘Hoo man! Look at the size ofthis cave! It is bigger than those found by the Indians. There must be a reakly big, fine woman in this cave! He stiood in front of the cave and hollered with all his might Woooo! Woooo! Woooo!. Like the other, he then heard an answering call, ‘Woooo! Woooo! Woooo!

With a gleam in his eye and a smile on his face, he raced into the cave tearing off his clothes as he ran.

The following day, the headline of the local newspaper read ….. NAKED IRISHMAN RUN OVER BY A TRAIN!!!
